MILAN (AP) — The comparisons with Diego Maradona keep coming for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. And, just like the Argentina great, Kvaratskhelia appears to be leading Napoli to the Serie A title. There were, indeed, echoes of Maradona in Kvaratskhelia’s opening goal in a 2-0 win over Atalanta which sent Napoli 18 points clear at the top of Serie A.Kvaratskhelia lived up to his “Kvaradona” nickname when he bedazzled the Atalanta defense on the hour mark. He collected the ball from Victor Osimhen, weaved his way into the area, twisting and turning between defenders, and blasted into the roof of the net.“Kvara displayed the fabulous quality he has. He scored a goal worthy of Maradona today,” Napoli coach Luciano Spalletti said. “He’s just phenomenal one on one. “The way he sways past opponents it’s impossible to tell which way he’ll go, then he shoots with precision and power. This time you can bring up the best ever player.”Maradona led Napoli to its only two Italian league titles in 1987 and...Life in prison for sex offender whose case was overturned

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu says she sympathizes with MBTA riders who have been inconvenience by recent slow-downs as a result of safety inspections and is confident Gov. Maura Healey will appoint the right general manager to address the issues.“It’s just like one thing after another for all commuters,” Wu said Saturday. “I know what it feels like when you get to the T station and immediately you begin to feel your body tensing up because you’re like, OK, what’s the sign going to say today? Is there going to be a delay? Is it going to be 20 minutes to the next train?” Wu said she is confident that Healey will make a solid pick for MBTA GM, a decision Healey says is due to be announced in the coming days.“We need to make sure that leadership is able to hit the ground running, is able to hit the ground running … I know the governor and her team are taking the time they need to make the right decision here.” Wu’s comments c...Bruins fastest to 50 wins in NHL history, beat Red Wings 3-2

But we’re not really focused on anything right now besides playing the right way for 60 minutes every night.”Hathaway gathered in a rebound and poked it in to break a third-period tie as Boston rallied from a two-goal deficit to beat Detroit and improve to 50-9-5 on the season. Julius Randle lost his cool.It was a flashback to last season, when Jalen Brunson wasn’t around and Randle’s quick-triggered anger contributed to an ugly and spiraling season. But Randle seemed to get that under control as he re-emerged as a 2023 All-Star.Until Saturday in Los Angeles.Randle picked up a technical foul at the end of the third quarter for clobbering the Clippers’ Mason Plumlee in the chest with an elbow. After the whistle, Randle went after the referees and appeared upset with a Knicks security guard near the team bench. It was an ugly scene and impossible not to correlate with Randle’s terrible basketball performance. With Brunson injured and in street clothes, Randle missed 19 of his 24 shots as the Knicks lost their third straight Saturday, 106-95, falling from fourth to fifth in the Eastern Conference behind the Brooklyn Nets.Randle’s meltdown was a critical point. The three free throws (two from Plumlee for the foul, one from Kawhi Le...MBTA needs more money for federal safety compliance

The department head tasked with overseeing compliance of federal safety directives said the MBTA needs more money than the $378 million allocated for that purpose through last year’s state budget. The T spent $90.9 million of those one-time state funds by the end of the second quarter in December, to address eight special directives issued as part of the Federal Transit Administration’s safety management inspection, said Katie Choe, chief of quality, compliance and oversight.“I think we will need more, but I can’t tell you how much more and it does depend on where we draw the box,” Choe said Thursday at a safety subcommittee meeting. “For instance, are we going to say all track maintenance that we do moving forward qualifies as an FTA special directive response, or is it only certain things?“So, there’s some element of figuring out what we want to consider a qualifying expense for FTA special directive response, versus sort of standard business for the MBTA.”According to Choe’s prese...Wendell Carter returns as Magic look to turn defense around

The Orlando Magic are hoping the return of their starting big man will lead to better defensive performances.Wendell Carter Jr. was back in the lineup Saturday vs. the Miami Heat after missing the previous three games — losses to the Portland Trail Blazers, Milwaukee Bucks and Utah Jazz — because of hip pain.“He does so many little things,” coach Jamahl Mosley said pregame. “Like his ability to when to roll and where to roll in pick and rolls. It’s why he and Franz [Wagner] have such a great connection in the pick and roll.“Defensively, that early talk, that early help with the guards. Helping them navigate through screens and being in the right position if something breaks down. Those are the things that you don’t really pick up on because he’s covering it so fast.”The Magic’s defensive efficiency tanked without Carter in the previous three games. They recorded a combined defensive rating (points allowed per 100 posse...UF’s Anthony Richardson proves NFL Scouting Combine is convention of fools | Commentary

There are some critics who want to do away with the NFL Scouting Combine because they believe it demeans players and turns them into human cattle. This may be true, but I believe the NFL Scouting Combine should be banned for another reason:Because it deteriorates the brain of NFL general managers and turns them into human idiots. In proving my theory, I would like to present Exhibit A:Anthony Richardson of the Florida Gators — an amazing athlete and a fine young man.Just not a very good college quarterback. But being a below-average college passer doesn’t matter because Richardson showed up at the made-for-TV Combine a few days ago and measured 6-foot-4, 244 pounds and then ran a blazing 4.43 40-yard dash (fifth-fastest among quarterbacks in Combine history) while setting the Combine QB records for the vertical jump (40 feet, 5 inches) and the standing broad jump (10 feet, 9 inches.).Suddenly, Richardson began skyrocketing up draft boards before multiple NFL analysts and pu...Latest news
