Friday fundraiser in Irving Park aims to help families of fallen Chicago firefighters CHICAGO — A week after the Chicago Fire Department and the city bid a final farewell to two city firefighters, an overwhelming response and outpouring of support continue with a fundraiser set for Friday to help the families of Jermaine Pelt and Lt. Jan Tchoryk.Tony Martin, the Chicago Fire Department’s EMWQ Retirees’, Widows’ and Children’s Fund, joined WGN Evening News to speak about the event set to take place on Friday, April 21. The fundraiser will be held at Leona’s Pizzeria & Restaurant, located at 3877 N. WATCH: Dashcam footage from Utah Highway Patrol shows wrong-way driver crash TOOELE, Utah (KTVX) - Utah Highway Patrol has released dashcam footage of the moment when a trooper struck a wrong-way driver with his patrol car in an attempt to stop him. The incident happened on Tuesday, April 18 when a pickup truck pulling a U-Haul was traveling the wrong way on the westbound lanes of I-80 at about 3 p.m. A UHP sergeant was also heading westbound, unaware of the oncoming truck. Once he saw it, he turned on his emergency lights and siren, slowed down and put himself in the path of the oncoming truck. 'Shocking and tragic': San Saba Police investigating murder/suicide incident SAN SABA, Texas (KXAN) -- Two people are dead after the San Saba Police Department said was the result of a murder/suicide incident in San Saba Thursday, according to a news release from the agency.At approximately 3 p.m., SSPD responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Wallace Street, the release said. Furthermore, police said the shooting occurred in the parking lot area of the location, and two adults were shot.When officers arrived on the scene, they determined an altercation occurred between a husband and wife, which resulted in the death of both parties. State drops 5,700 jobs in March, unemployment rate ticks down Minnesota lost an aggregate 5,700 jobs in March and the state’s unemployment rate ticked down to 2.8%, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development said Thursday.All of the job losses were in the private sector, 6,100 jobs, but this was offset by the addition of 400 new government jobs. The unemployment rate was down two-tenths of a percentage point from February, DEED said.Nationwide, total nonfarm employment increased by 236,000 jobs, up 0.2% from February to March, with the U.S. private sector gaining 189,000. The comparable U.S. unemployment rate was 3.5%.In Minnesota, the labor force participation rate was unchanged at 68%, and this compares with 62.6% nationally.
